Has this ever happened to you?
While driving the ole 93 at night headlights on high beam-dead of darkness and then-lights go out-total blackout-so go to low beam and they come back on-whats up with this? Is it the headlight switch or in the dimmer switch on column-an inquiring mind would like to know-as its scary! Good thing road was straight!

I've never had that happen but 3 times in the last 4 months I blew a fuse and lost my instrument panel and tail lights. I can never find anything wrong. I change the fuse and it's fine for another month or so until I'm trying to get home at night.
Do the high beams still work or are they out completely? Does it smell like anything is burning?
I'd start with a switch first, we've had them go bad our '87 once and recently our '96. Interal circuit breaker in the switch is the most likely culpret.
Not only is having the lights go out dangerous, if the switch is bad it could start an electrical fire under the dash.

Hey Spunbearing- My old '85 used to do that until I stopped keeping change in the ashtray.
Turned out there was a dime bouncing around in the lighter.
I think the headlight problem is in the multifunction switch. You can get them for around $70 at any decent auto parts store.
