After months of looking for a 1st Gen and having many near misses, I found a truck I couldn't pass up for my son. 1 owner, 80 year old man, 4X4, automatic, power everything, camper shell, 87,000 on a 7.3 litre IDI. No turbo though.$2500
Too bad it is a FERD.

I'll keep looking for me a play truck. It will for sure be a 1st Gen Dodge.

I figured at the price for the mileage and condition I couldn't pass it up. I'm going to get myself a 2wd 1st gen for a play and chore truck. the bad thing with this truck was that the guy originally posted it for $1300 but received so many emails he decided to take offers. If the Ferd don't pan out for him we can always look again for a 1st Gen.

Man I've seen some nice really attractively priced 1st Gens on craigslist Eugene. If I hadn't been back in school finishing a degree I would've taken a road trip up there to buy one. I remember a sweet blue 4 wheeler for $5995 with 180,000.

But it has nothing compared to the cummins.
Jon
PS, can you really compare a gasser vs a diesel, much less the Cummins
No you cant. And I dont have much room to talk. I dreamed about one truck for 10 years. I have it now, for 2 years now. Its a Ford. But its a 79 4wd beast on 36s, with sentimental value.
Brought the truck home tonight. On further investigation the paint is in better condition than it looks in the picture, there's no receiver so it's never towed anything. The power is better than my 460 Ford I owned but nothing near my 2006 Cummins. It'll make a fine run around hunting rig for him.
The IDI 7.3 is a fine pickup truck motor. The power is adequate as long as you're not trying to tow something heavy up a hill in a hurry. Enjoy it and keep after the coolant changes/additive.
oilburners.net is a good IDI board.

Btw OB is the best
Going to do the oil and coolant changes right away. Will add Power Service to the fuel and keep an eye on the fuel filter with a new one sitting in the cab.

I sold a Ferd (7.3L NA = no turbo) to buy the Dodge!
