Grid heater question

At what temp do the grid heaters come on? The other day it was about 55 outside and the grid heaters came on. This is the first time I have driven the truck when it was cold (only had it about 5 months). I really hate the dimming light thing. From a previous thread is sounds like you can disconnect these things if you live in an enviroment where it does not get too cold. Do you just disconnect the triggers on those solenoids or do you disconnect the main power leads?

They should come on at about 45 degrees but mine have came on at a little higher temps at times. I would not disconnect them but you can if you want. I would just disconnect the solenoids and leave every thing else connected so if you need them.

They are supposed to kick in at 59 degrees.

If you want to disable them, just pull one small lead off each relay. That will prevent the relays from engaging. I ran one winter without them because the relays were fried. Once I got big injectors I fixed them because the white smoke was pretty nasty.

Thanks. My plan was to one small wire off each relay. I guess I will put some electrical tape over the wire end so the spiders and crap don't fill the little boot.
