Grid Heater Problem...

Howdy all,

Night before last, everytime I restarted my truck after shutting it off for a couple minutes(truck was fully warmed-up) the grid heater would cycle for a minute or two(lights dimming,etc...).Did it several times in a row.

The motor was fully warmed-up and the heaters shouldn't have been coming on...I mean it wasn't all that cold out...and it's never done that before.

Now today, when I went out to start the truck I can't hear the high pitched whine of the heater,The "wait to start" light shuts right off when I turn on the key,and I don't hear the clunk of the relay shutting off.

Something is wrong with my grid heater...where do I start looking?

What should I check first?

Thanks in advance,

Vinny

I know if the dark grey connector on the harness is disconnected the heater solenoids will cycle.

Check the connections in the dark grey connector on top of the engine.
Also check the connections to the front sensor on top of the intake..there are 2 sesors on there. The back one is for the KSB solenoid.

What Den said. The system is pretty simple, pretty much the only things that ever go wrong is the sender and the power relays.

If the engine is warm the air in the manifold will also be warm because it isn't moving with the engine off. When you start the air gets cooler becaue it's coming from outside. The heaters are supposed to come on anytime the air is below 59 degrees according to my manual.

I'm planning on building a custom gauge with LEDs that will display the state of the KSB solenoid, grid relays, trans thermal, coolant thermal and AC compressor. Basically it's going to be multiple logic probes to display the state of the item without changing the voltage at the reference point.

Still in the planning stages. Currently working on the Dash Super Pod Tach and 6 gauges

I do electronics design work and PC boards. Let me know if you need any help with that.
