Grid Heater Do I Have A Problem?

I have noticed in the last week or so since I had disconnected the batteries to reset the throttle position sensor, "I disconnected the negative sides of the batteries if it matters". I noticed that the stock amp gauge shows a discharge for about 3-5 minutes maybe more when you first start the truck. I did make sure the connections were good and took apart and rechecked. After about 3-5 minutes it shows that it is charging allot. I know the grid heater use to cycle and I could see it in the gauge discharge - charge when cycling. I don't see that any more. I noticed even after running it for 20 minute shutting it off for about 10 minutes it does the same thing. Is it normal for the grid heater not to cycle and stay on do to the colder weather and cycle in the warmer weather? What are you guys seeing with yours? I am in eastern pa 15 degrees at night 30 during the day. Thanks in advance for your input; your knowledge is greatly appreciated.

Mine cycles more in the cold weather, but it doesn't "stay on" for minutes at a time. That doesn't sound normal to me. It will continue to cycle longer when it's cold, but doesn't stay on without cycling if that's what you mean.
