Got showed up by a choker

Well I was out at the farm tonight and my friend with a stroker got to talkin bad about dodges so somehow, a chain ended up in between us. It was close but he got me fair and square. The only difference between our trucks(besides brand) is his is an auto and his frontend sets higher then the back. I figure the biggest difference is the tranny. Anyone else got some ideas on why he beat me. Obviously I can't let that happen again, it wouldn't be good to happen around a bunch of people.

My limited experience was that even a small engine with HIGH diff gears could out pull a larger engine with stock gears. Maybe this PS had a chip and /or a gear change. Most guys won't tell everthing they've done, especially if a bet is involved.

A couple of things come to mind.
1) weight of the vehicles makes a difference over the rear wheels - assuming your pulling in 2 wheel drive.
2) the vehicle with the higher hook of the tow strap has also an advantage.

your truck have a limited slip? fords do,does his truck sit higher if so he is lifting you up. also auto can be used to keep the wheels from spinning once your wheels spin he has all the traction ...compare apples and apples if all where the same the dodge will out pull the ford.

He's got a chip, and I think the front of his truck being higher put more weight on the rear tires. No LS here, anyone know of a good company who makes one for the 70. I also think the V-8 might weigh more. I definitely had plenty of power, just not enough wheels gripping.

My 93' spicer 70 is limited slip 3.55. I pretty sure the CTD weighs more by more than a hundred pounds(built stronger) Type and condition of tires can make a difference as well. Were you on pavement or dirt?

FrdRdnk, first a question.... when you all said go or whatever to start the hook, did you put your foot to the floor? If so, that was probably your only mistake. Power means nothing if you can't get it to the ground. Your best option next time is to put your truck in low lock 4x4 first gear and dump the clutch. DO NOT give the truck ANY throttle. If everything is the same on both trucks, you will pull him!!!! Actually, he can have twice the power you have and you will still pull him. It's like "Alk" and "rebal" said, basically the only way he can pull you is if you have a lower hook point, bald tires, or pulling up hill. Trust me, I know. I've pulled guys with much heavier trucks with big mud tires and longer wheelbases. Want to win? First LowLock!! Better luck next time.

Thanks 2 that makes sense, I'll have to try it. We were in a dirt field, I've got a mud terrain and he's running all terrains. Both of our tires our almost new. 2whistlers, I would only worry that it would stall with no fuel but 4lo does have alot of torque.

first gear in in your low range your top speed is probably 0.5-3mph, you could drag a house and not stall...

ya all that matters is traction. not power. really, i once pulled a dually cummins with my ramcharger (430hp) backwards spinning all 6 tires why? because i was locked all the way around and let him goose it then i just chugged along.

it was all just to prove a point. traction is everything if u can't put it to the ground it doesn't matter if u have 10,000hp

Sam, you should have told me and Michael about this so we could have made fun of you to your face today.

Try him again and let us know how you do.

Dave, you just forgot to ask. LOL. I got to thinkin about it tonight and I think I found what to use that extra switch for. One of the new Detoit electric locking differentials, well once i get the $$$ anyway. That and the tips from this post and I think it will be a different story. I hope. Oh, by the way you should put your new numbers on your sig. don't want people to think your truck's slow. Just kidding
