Good bye old Dodge

Well after 8 years with the old 99 3500 I thought I would be sad to see it go. I traded it for a 2007 Chevrolet Duramax 2500 4x4 Crew cab last week and I must say it is a hell of a truck 360hp 650ft it riides and drives great and yesterday I pulled my 37' fithwheel and it was amassing it would run circles around the old Dodge even my wife was amased how well it handled. After all the problems I have had with the Dodge over the years it want be missed.

All three one-tons have their plus/minus features, and I've experienced Dmax, Pstrk and newer Dodges, but go back to my '93 out of the pure joy of it looking, sounding and feeling like a "real truck". When I win the lottery my old girl will get a major reno job rather than my considering a truck change.

I remember reading some where in the archives about a fellow who was considering buying a newer diesel truck. Then had a chance encounter with one of the DTR member in real life and was given the advice of buying the older 1st gen and then sticking to a strict monthly payment plan, like a loan payment, over the next few years and fixing up the truck.

The guy then showed up one day with an absolutely stunning 1st gen and re-introduced himself to the same guy. He had taken the advice and couldn't have been happier with his 1st gen!!

Darn good advice.

I believe it was our very own Bearkiller who dispensed that sage advice.

I've leased new goats since 2004. An 04 1500 that gave 8 MPG. An 05 3500 dually Cummins. Good truck but too big for city driving. And an 07 1500 that has been a big piece of plastic junk. 10 MPG. $80,000 in lease payments. What am I driving now? 93 W250. Love it. A real truck.

I have a few people ask me why I keep my mess. I tell 'em i) I know what it's failings are. I don't need to buy someone else's problems, (got enough of my own!) ii) It can do anything a new truck can do. It may not be as comfortable, pretty, fast, powerful etc etc, but it'll still get me there, and I can fix most anything on it with a few simple tools. iii) I own it. No payments, lower insurance, and in 5-odd thousand dollars time, I'm going to have a better than new truck. (That's about what I figure it'll take me to get the truck where I want it.)

BK is right.

I think you guys are all making the assumption that if some one buys a new truck they are making payments which may not be true. I know I could walk in and buy a new dodge tomorrow if I wanted, but I'm saving that money until I graduate so I can buy a house.
