Getrag trouble

I found the speed limit on my getrag 360 the other day; I was rushing home at about 80-85 and when I was approaching a hill I found myself stuck in 5th. I pulled over and got towed home so I could get out of the rain. I took the shifter, lined up the "forks" I could see, and added some fluid. It seems to drive and go the the gears fine. I have not given it a long range test.
What caused the trans the stick in gear?
What potential damage could have occurred, and could there be any future problems?
I've had this 91 w250 4x4 for about a year and driven it to 135k without any problems. I would appreciate any knowledge or advice as I am just starting to learn about these beasts. I am also interested in getrag service manual pdf if anyone could hook me up.
Thanks

Sounds like a top cover / shift rail issue if you were able to get it back in gear? I don't think these things have a 'top' speed but if it was getting hot... check your fluid make sure you're overfilled with 5w30 synthetic etcetc.. If the top cover is the culprit it could happen again at ANY speed...

After driving around, I feel like the tranny is fine, my shifter just sorta got lost, or came out of its "track" due to excess play and that's just the way it is. I guess I should could be a little more smooth with that shift lever.
