Unhappy Pulling a transmission

I'd plan on a rebuild if I were going to pull a transmission, especially with a new clutch going in.
I'm lazy and only want to do that kind of work once.

Why cant you do the floor mod and cut it out? Pull the shifter out and you can also inspect the gears while your in there looking. Alot easier than pulling the trans out. Might save you a lot of time as well.

Ok guys, finally got some pics of the shifter end and the broken screw(which has nothing to do with it really). The shifter end looks great to me but then again I don't know what it's supposed to look like. I don't see where its been wearing though. Alright tell me what you think. If this isn't the problem then out comes the tranny.

And now the broken screw. I'm posting these to make sure they dont have excessive wear or anything that could cause a problem. Several different angles. Thanks again

All looks normal. Here's a link to my gallery on the floor mod spoken of. Would save you the trouble of dropping the tranny. http://www.turbodieselregister.com/u...0&albumid=1315

Yep, there's no reason those parts shouldn't shift.

Thanks for the pics. Now I know what a good one's supposed to look like. Sounds like you may have a worn shift fork. This happens when a driver leans on the shifter all the time. The constant pressure wears the fork out. Used to happen with 3spd column shifters all the time. they'd get so bad that they wouldn't stay in high.

Well I guess the next question is where in the heck do I find a new shift fork? Are these un-obtanium too? I'm sure its the 3-4 fork.

EDIT: also where do I get a new bolt? since the one is broken

Standard Trans or Zumbrota Gear can get you the fork.

Don't sweat the bolt head, just put it in with some loctite.

That I don't know. You'd have to call Standard Trans and see what they want.

I'd get it apart and inspect things before you bought anything.

Just a little update... Standard trans wanted over $100 so I'm going with the one from zumbrota. I plan on doing the floor pan mod so I can save some time. I'd like to get my replacement clutch in but I think I'll wait for this summer so I can afford something from SBC instead. Thanks again for the help so far guys and as soon as I get started on this project (couple weeks ) I'll keep you updated and post pictures etc..
