The other day I was driving to work and my getrag popped out of 2nd, didn't think too much about it at the time but it has gotten worse and now it is popping out of 2nd and 4th. It is parked now till I can fix it. Any guesses on how bad it is broke. Anyone here actually rebuilt one? Any special tools needed?

 

drain the oil, that will tell you what it did, more than likely it lost bearing thrust, if its clean, and dosent make noise, you might look into the top cover shift slider spring detents, that hold gear selections. I know someone selling one.

 

When mine 1st started doing that, it was because of dirty oil. Change it and use a synthetic motor oil. If it doesn't clear up after a few hundred miles, then it's time to overhaul the shift top.

 

when I get home from skiing I will drop the oil then and see what I am looking at. Hopefully there is nothing too terribly wrong with it. Other than it popping out of gear it doesn't seem like there is anything else wrong. No weird noises or anything.
