Getrag knowledge needed

Two Sunday's ago I toasted the ring & pinion in my 92 while towing the two wheel drive puller to the pulls, the rear is now fixed and changed from 3.54 to 3.73, thats all good. The problem now is that 1st & 2nd gear have no syncros at all. What could have happened to cause this and what parts do you think I will need to get for the repair? The truck just turned 80k and I want to do a bearing kit when its down but I'm thinking I'm gonna need something else in there. Havn't been into a getrag yet but I'm fixin to. Thanks Scott

Dont know what could have happened when the rear went out.

While you have it out you may as well redue it all. In my experience, most of these getrags dont go more than 125K without a rebuild in the trans...and thats the ones that are really used for towing alot. I got 110K out of my last one before it needed bearing and a lower shaft.

Yea I'll go through it for sure when I get it out, just can't understand what could have caused this, maybe it will be more clear when its apart. The truck has been a tow mule its entire life, the first guy babied it towing a roadrunner show car and only put a total of 753 miles on it in 7 years. The 2nd guy retired as an electric co. lineman and went into business hauling hay down east untill early 09, he ran it up to 56,000 miles, then I got it and been hauling pulling tractors and trucks ever since so I'm not mad at the old girl just a little confused I guess.

Wow, that doesn't seem very long. The PO on my truck got about 240k out of his, and then he had the transmission out for other work so he rebuilt it as a preventative measure. He was on a stock pump though.

I agree, I have 185k on mine and soon I will be doing some preventative maintenance and rebuild it, needs new syncros.
