Getrag Dilema for Truck Pulling
Getrag Dilema for Truck Pulling
Saturday was the first time I pulled the truck with all the mods. I tried 3rd on the low side and it took off and then about 80ft I smoked the stock clutch. This truck is really strong now
!
I have called about 6 diesel shops that sell South Bend clutches and 4 out of 6 recomend me doing the NV 4500 Conversion. I don't want to spend that kind of money right now and buy a South Bend pulling Clutch.
Will the Getrag hold up to a South Bend 3600 pulling the sled with my mods?
Chuck at New Era said he could change the spline center out if I went with the South Bend for the Getrag and it busted for the NV 4500.

From your sig you're running the stock turbo and 435 sticks? How much NOS? I think you'll likely melt the engine down or munch the d70 (locker or no?) long before the 'rag gives it up. JMO.
Yeah It is a stock turbo. I am looking for S300. I ran on Saturday a 70hp shot of NOS to cool it off but that wasn't enough. They said I had a flame coming out of the stacks and the egt got up to 2,000 +
! I am going up to 130hp shot to cool it .
Thanks

I have had it sence last aug. 07 I have hooked it 8 times, does pretty good. I pull in second hi with 4.10's and 33's. I was always told first and second gear in a rag is tougher then in a 4500? I usally pull 290 ish which is enough to beats some newer stuff. Keep me posted how you do.
I ran the getrag for 2 years, after I overhauled it. For the $600 I put into parts at that time I guess I got my moneys worth. It isn't a bad transmission, but I know where I was headed it would not be able to take me.
However, I found a lot better deal 2 years down the road on a spec built NV4500 so I bit the bullet. It made the dual disk swap easier, the gear spread is a little better, and the throws are shorter.
Every transmission has it's pros and cons. You have to decide what your budget allows and start there.
A first gen with a dual disk really turns heads in the pits at a pull, that is for sure.

yeah last yeah I burn't the stock clutch then put a napa clutch in and burnt it at the pull so the next pull had double disc, just told the that noise was a bad throw out bearing from the napa clutch ha!!
