My 91.5. The trans was fine when i put the clutch in, drove the truck for 2 weeks, my dad takes it for a ride to feel the clutch and he went to shift from 3rd to 4th and it blew back outta 3rd and like hurt his hand. he limped it home in 5th gear because 3rd and 4th were gone

What a bummer.
That really stinks. Hope your dad's OK. Any thoughts as to Why ?
I've never seen a trans grenade like that unless someone did some nasty clutchless shifting.
(back in the day I was wrenching)

My Dad is known for clutchless powershifting, Even my grandpop said so
i don't wanna say I didn't beat on it, but i always used the clutch and maybe once in a while did something stupid- If i drove it like an idiot i would have expected it to blow, it was a total shock to me that it blew- 98% of the time i fully disengage the clutch and make synchronized shifts- I also never lugged it, I'd drive around in 3rd at a high rpm just to keep it from lugging in 4th
OH well.

Buddy of mine just got his 98 5 speed on the road and he almost never uses the clutch upshift downshift doesn't matter haha and really sorry bout what happened but knowing a little bout you it aint gonna be but a minor problem!
Was this the one you had on the bench a few weeks ago and painted up real pretty? You shouldn't have messed with it. If you had left it covered I grease it would have never exploded like that. I bet it was ashamed to be so pretty and shiny.
Don't mean to hijack your thread, but can you "school" a 1st Gen rookie about the Getrag?
No offense, but I haven't heard much good when Getrag discussion comes up.
The 1st Gen I just bought has a New Venture which I was told that the bellhousing for the swap was around $1100. Just wondering why these adapter bellhousings would even be offered if everyone was happy with their Getrags.

You can get a bearings syncro's and seals for ~150. If you need hard parts then an input is ~180, counter shaft is ~280. Not sure how much 3rd gear is. But as long as the bearings are setup with the right preload and they are kept over full with oil, you don't lug them, don't speed shift and keep them cool they are a good transmission! Oh and did I mention you have to get the preload right on the bearings?
