Because he tried stopping it with very little brakes?
He's got it right, I usually carry about 1000# of tools and and materials in my truck the theses things just don't like stopping without power brakes, even if you know you don't have them it is still not fun. I had to drive it for a day like this while I got the repair parts.
The first time you find they are gone, it has that pucker factor.
Like just sitting in a drive through idling you have to keep your foot into the floorboard or the truck will try to creep away.
Back in the 60's most cars and trucks only had manual brakes and power was a luxury.
I have a habit of always tapping my brakes ahead of time to make sure I still have them, it wasn't a complete surprise.
