Gearing questions

I have been doing a lot of reading over the past few days about changing the gears in my 93'. The auto trans has had several upgrades to it and I am thinking about changing the gears because of what I tow. Thinking about 3:73 or 4:10. I will be driving in the mountains and don't want to worry about trans temps or not being able to pull the grade. Any of you that have a 518 with different gears other than 3:54 please chime in. Thanks

If the torque converter can lock up with it in third then tow in third at least in the mountains. Otherwise 4.10's

I have hauled 25000 combined gross up Afton Mountain in Virginia several times and the A518 tranny was the least of my concerns. If you are looking to do a lot of hauling in the mountains I would suggest a 4:10 gears behind a good six speed manual tranny with a good solid clutch. Automatics are nice but they generate a lot of unwanted heat while under high loads. Auxiliary coolers help but I still think manual tranny's are better.

So you all know, I am pulling 15,000 - 16,000 lbs. No more than 16,000. The truck has a new trans and converter, double trans coolers, Improved the upper intake and intercooler tubes to help it breathe a little better.
