I used grease on the drill and tap no problems. In manifold by the turbo off to one side or the other, not in the middle their is a center support.

well would just running the engine while drilling/tapping keep the shavings out of the turbo, by just blowing it back out the hole

I would say that would be a bad idea for safety reasons. It will get hot there and with a moving fan in the engine bay you wouldn't want your clothes to get caught in it.

I have put many of these and have never had a problem. Just use the grease on the drill bit and tap. After its done start the truck and let it idle, dont rail on it!!! All will be good.

I agree with Dodge359, if your scared after you drill simply pull the intake hose off and watch the impellar while someone cranks the truck. If it does'nt turn just kill the truck and rotate the impellar backwards and it will fall into the exhaust. Done Deal.

I used the gauge gizmo from geno's. Worked good. Drilled almost thru manifold, then started truck and finished drilling. No big whoop. Worked good.

Yup, and you don't even need the grease on the drill and tap trick. If anything gets stuck you can clear it by turning the turbo back and forth.

I used the grease method. Once I was through I used my pen magnet to get what fell into the hole. Worked great!!

I read one thread somewhere where they put a solid gasket between the turbo exhaust inlet and the manifold... drilled and tapped, took the bolts loose and moved the turbo a little (creating a crack between the manifold and the turbo) and started it for a few seconds; that blew all the shavings out the crack. Removed the solid gasket and tightened her up and all was well.... looked like it worked. PITA....

I am running a similar gauge pod and it works fine. The bad thing is you have to drill holes in your pillar but, oh well. My next one will be the full pillar 3 pod.
