Getrag G360 Speedo Gear required

Help!

This is my first time on this site and am looking for a Speedo drive gear for the Getrag G360. This is the nylon gear on the output shaft and I believe it is 20 tooth. They seem to be extremely hard to find.

Any help would be appreciated as the tranny is apart right now waiting for reassembly.

Are you sure it's 20 teeth? Seems very wrong. I have one but it's 30 teeth.

What year is your truck? You should fill out your sig with some vital info.

On mine it has a cable drive and also has a reversing reducing gear in the line otherwise the speedo runs backward.

Later years have an electronic pickup.

He is talking about the drive gear- on the output shaft of the tranny. They are available- I found one last spring for my 90. They are about $80 new, and only a few places have them (DC NOT being one of them, IIRC). I dont remember the part number, but if I get time, I may do some searching.

Ed, i think you are looking a the Pinion drive , while VE is talking about teh worm gear. the worm gear is 20 teeth and rides on teh output shaft in the tail assy, while the pinion drive varies with gearing, transmission and such and is what powers the VSS...it varies in tooth count based on gear ratio, tire size and trans. style.

I located the worm gear thru the local dealer, IIRC it was gonna be around $100 but I wrecked the truck before I got around to replacing it....

All the ones I've seen are steel so I immediately assumed he meant the nylon gear that goes in the side. Sorry.

It is steel on the inside diameter of the gear, and plastic on the outside.

That is correct nylon outside of steel sleeve.

Here is the link to drivetrain.com. There were only a handful of shops I could find on the web, and they had the best price. I think the price on the list is a little lower than what I was quoted- I think it is around $80 now. Part number is ALT4549212. Drop the "ALT" for the MOPAR number.

Drivetrain.com was one of the first places I contacted with no luck - they had just sold the last one they had and couldn't suggest any other source. Also didn't know if they were going to be receiving any more as new parts for the g360 no longer available.

Will keep trying tho - - -

Try Mac's Standard Transmissions. They are in Houston. This is the place where I get my parts.
