fun time truck for the track... Auto or manual?

65 is easy with a 727. I think it is more of a mpg thing. I can do 65 in second with my 89. It is at 3200 plus but will do it. Both of my 89's would only do 75 to 78 at stock settings but if you turn out the high idle screw you can do close to a hundred. On the 518 od tranny most likly it will have the 3.54 gears so the final high gear ratio must be close to the 3.08's in 3rd. If that makes sense?
the 91 NON i/c 727 3.07 truck we just sold had a 3200 spring and tweaked pump and would do 100mph with ease if you had the road.

I recoomend getting a non i/c 727 truck and drag racing it. Ours was running low 15's spinning the tire half the track. Stock turbo, tranny,and injectors, no intercooler. Fun to drive too. the 727 has a pretty tight converter in it stock.

Water/meth or nitrous will be much more effective for a drag truck than an intercooler. Not that an intercooler won't help a little, but it's not going to give you the solid 40 RWHP that 50/50 water/meth will give, or the 40-100 RWHP nitrous can add.
You can adjust the shift point with the TV cable.
Cool, is adjusting the tv cable hard to do? Any special tools? I'm going to drive the truck around on the street too, so I'm thinking an intercooler will go in anyway. Do you guys have any recomendations on a water meth setup? Who to buy from? Is there a DIY setup I can do? I did a water injection setup on my jetta turbo diesel using windshiel washer fluid... It worked pretty well.

Update! I've got a line a 91 non intercooled 2wd single cab auto! Exactly what I'm looking for!
I have been looking into turbos and injectors quite a bit. Sounds like some 6 x .016s are the way to go on injectors, but what turbo will cool it down thats something I can do on the cheap? I thought I read you can find a S300 on some CAT engines? I also know I can do a hybrid out of the stocker, but by the time you buy the exhaust and cold side, I'm thinking I could get a better turbo used from someone upgrading to something bigger... Main goal is to get into the 13s... I have a friend with a common rail who has run a 13.7 and is a little too cocky about it...

If I were you I'd start with a 3200rpm spring, advance the pump timing all the way to the head, crank on the fuel screw, get a GDS stage II compressor, and look into a shift kit for the old trany. That along with some tweaking to get your shift points right on will have that truck running pretty fast.

There like HTTurbo.com, its just a 60mm compressor upgrade. But there cheaper than HTT.
If you plan to do mainly drag racing then you may want a 3800rpm spring and swap in some 60lb valve springs. With good airflow and pump timing advanced pretty good you can make power higher in the revs and the extra RPM will be nice at the track. I have a 3800 rpm spring I will be swapping into mine once I get the auto built and converted over. Like you I'm going for something with decient street manors but made to run the 1/4 in high 12's.

Its really going to be more of a street truck, it will go to the track, but mostly driving around town. I think valve springs is a little farther than I'm going to go... What does the 60mm compressor upgrade go for?

The 60mm compressor upgrade will give you more air for cheaper then a larger turbo. GDS is Gillett Diesel Service and there prices are a little cheaper then HTT plus I think HTT was going to start doing away with the H1C compressor upgrades.
6x.016 injectors you almost have to have either compound turbo's or a sled pulling turbo. It takes alot of air to match that much fuel. I guess you could just get the injectors and not crank the fuel up on the pump. The compressor upgrade seems to only be good to around 350whp or so with just diesel. If you add N2O to burn the extra fuel that turbo will be on borrowed time and eventualy grenade.

Well, I would like to get into the 13's with it. I don't really know what kind of numbers I would need to get a single cab 2wd that fast. Only reason I was saying 6x.016s is that those injectors have been highly recomended and I figured buy the best the first time. Not maxing the pump was what I was thinking, so I can grow into them as time goes on. Will that work though?
