Fuel pressure fluctuation
Fuel pressure fluctuation
My truck has been running great but yesterday I noticed my fuel pressure gauge, which has always run at 3 to 5 pounds of pressure was running steady at 7 pounds and going up to 10 pounds. It has not done this before and I would like to know what would cause this and is it a sign of something to check. I have the stock diaphragm lift pump. no leaks or other visible problems.
7PSI at idle is typical for the diaphragm in good condition. Sounds like it is starting to fail. Time to replace it with a piston lift pump. Look for the FAQ in the "Sticky" section for instructions.
I have a diaphragm pump on mine with a fuel pressure gauge and snubber run off of the bleeder fitting (replaces banjo bolt and bleeder). The gauge bounces between 4 and 5 psi at idle. No idea what it does past idle.
Maybe you have a gauge or sender problem. I wouldn't think a failing diaphragm pump would increase in pressure.
