Ran about 400 miles Sunday with the new PODs pulling a two axle car trailer both ways, and an AllisChalmers AC for half the trip. 17 going down with just the trailer and 15.5 coming back with the tractor. Ran 65-70 the whole way. I'm pretty impressed with the old truck.
When I put the PODs in I found that I needed to pull the smoke screw all the way to the top and brought the star wheel up about six turns from where it was (close to the bottom) to control the smoke. I think it could use some more timing as well, but still, 17 with PODs, not bad.

High of 850 climbing a grade at about 70 with the tractor. About 650-750 on the flat. It's not very big tractor though, maybe 5500 w/ the trailer. Something interesting though, I put the PODs in and with no other changes took it for a drive. At 60 mph empty, it was showing about 800. I figured PODs run hot, or at least that's what you always hear, and didn't think much of it, but when I adjusted the pump to cut down on smoke, the EGTs went down to about 550 - 600 at the same 60 MPH over the same route. I'm not sure why exactly, but I'll take it. I'll say this though, with PODs there is no need for the smoke screw to do anything but keep the diaphram from hitting the AFC housing.

Where it it the best place to get POD's or would 190's be better. Best priced place to purchase them. I think I am going to pull the trigger on one cause my stockers have 280,000 and i am getting about 14-13 and diesel isn't cheep!!
I got mine from Rayleen on E-bay at least a couple years ago. I think they were about $400 or so. I'd have to dig up the paperwork to be sure.
I don't know how consistant the quality among the different venders is, some say matched sets, some come with a washer kit, some don't so read the fine print.
Also, I didn't just throw them in as they came in the mail. I took mine to Stateline Diesel in Edwardsburg MI and had them pop tested and the pressure adjusted to 245 bar, same as the OE pressure. About $150.00 I think and I also machined the sealing washers to .020 thickness. My pump settings are also pretty conservative, I'm seeing about 35-38 psi max boost and not alot of smoke, so that may help the mileage.
I agree 17 wasn't bad, I was surprised. With the 4:10s and 285/75 tires the engine is just loafing along with that piddly little load anyway. At 70 on the flat with the tractor it was showing about 8 - 10 PSI, not much more than running empty.
