fuel mileage problems

I have had my 92 ctd for about six months now. when I first bought it I was getting about 13mpg and it slowly went up the more fuel and fuel additives I used, also helped changing my filter, my problem is that I am back down to about 13mpg again and I was wondering if any one had any ideas why my fuel mileage is fluctuating so much, or what the best way to completely clean my fuel system out is.
the first time i changed the filter it was disgusting, it looked like it was covered in rust but it cleaned off, everything else that I have worked on in my fuel system has looked similar

I would post pics but am having trouble with my computer

thanks

I think I would get a new tank and go ahead and do the 3/8" fuel line kit. Should be able to pic up a tank fairly cheap at a junk yard and the 3/8" lines will only help things. You probly want to know what is going on in the fuel system and your gonna have to drop the tank to see. Since your already going that far and you know theres something bad in the system and nowhere else it could come from but the tank might as well replace it and maybe upgrade the lines while at it. JMO! Good luck!

drop the tank, just make sure it doesn't have a lot of fuel when you do it( i did it with it half full.....) you can most likely just clean it really good, clean the screen in the tank while your in there. you might want to change your fuel filter again.

it will smoke a little but not nearly like the other two 1srt gens I have had, and only if you really stick your foot in it.

and as for dropping the tank that might be the next best move
