Fuel Heater Screen

I am wondering how many of you have cleaned out the screen by the fuel heater. I changed the fuel filter tonight and it appears it takes a large flat blade screw driver, or possibly a special socket to get the heater off. The screen is above the heater right? I was not at the shop, the filter plugged on the way the the GF's house, and I didn't want to open a can of worms. But I would like to clean it out soon. With the filter off, pumping the lift pump poured what appeared to be plenty of fuel out, so I just put on a new filter.
She rolls smoke(black now) with the best of them again.

One other thing, what actually activates the heater.

What screen? That's a 2nd gen thing.

The fuel heater is held on by the filter mount spud, most of them have a slot where you can use a big screwdriver (or a drag link socket if you have one) to take it off.

The fuel heater gets 12 volts any time the key is on. It has a thermal switch inside and turns on around 50 degrees.

Well I saw a strainer part number on dadgeram.org, and someone on here said there was one in there. I guess I was going on that. So the only pre-filtering is by the screen on the fuel pick-up assembly?
Thanks

Correct, sir. The piston lift pump has a strainer screen, but that's window-screen size mesh.
