Fuel filler tube and brake hardline

If you're leaking fuel when you fill up it could be this. It's been rubbing on the bed flange for a long time. My '90 parts truck has hose and 2 clamps in that location, so I'm wondering if it is also worn through. This all started because I need to replace the brake hardline that runs in the frame rail behind the fuel tank. With the amount of rust the truck has I doubt I can get any of the brake tubing clamp bolts out. I may just leave the tank alone rather than risk breaking stuff and have it turn into an even bigger project. I'm thinking of slipping the tubing behind the tank and zip tying it to the old brake tubing where I can for now. For what it's worth, a Ramcharger fuel filler tube looks to be the same except for the unleaded small hole and flappy thingy.

Trucks rust in CA?

Can you just dimple that area and weld it back up?

Rust? I got no stinkin rust! Salted sanded I-80 in the Sierra Nevada. Don't buy into the lie that nothing is rusted in Commiefornia. There are high mountains with salted roads and lots of ocean shoreline areas.
When you say dimple and weld up don't you mean dimple and blow through? I can give it a try or get the right size hole saw and remove the unleaded stuff in the RC filler.

I think that the only place in the USA that things truly don't rust is AZ from Black Canyon City to the southern border. No ocean, no salted roads and very little humidity. Even the humidity that we have really only affects the comfort of living things. Soooooo, if you don't want rust, you know where to go...Mark

What's your opinion of Casa Grande? Thinking of moving there to escape commiefornia.

Hi Edwin, Casa Grande is not a bad place to live. It is about 1/2 way between Phoenix and Tucson, so if you miss the city it isn't too far, about 50 miles to either, give or take some. If you want the mountains, the Santa Catalinas are just North/east of Tuscon and actually get snow and have a small ski area. It is about 20 miles from downtown Tucson. It is big enough to have the big box stores and super markets, all in all good. As a bonus, You will likely find many like minded people (politically) , many leagues from California liberals. It is around 250 miles to the Grand Canyon and about 120 or so to Mexico. Come on out and check it out...Mark

Hammered away at that lip with a half jack, should be good now. I did weld up that filler tube. It took a lot of tries to get it to pass a water test. Only blew through it a couple times!

Now I have some more places to check out in my search for greener pastures. Many places have to be much more sane than this place.
