Fuel Cap

I have had a problem with my fuel tank imploding cause the fuel cap is not venting. I lost prime the last year hauling my tractor and bought a new one. It was one that has that 1/4 turn to vent it and it worked fine till this year. Does anyone know where do I get a vented fuel cap for my truck?

Go to a parts store and they can look up by application. Make sure they give you the diesel cap. Go to a real parts store like NAPA or Carquest. Somewhere that actually has a real counterman, not a numb nut wannabe.

Are these supposed to vent through the cap? My tank doesn't vent either, I've been turning it loose a 1/4 turn to let air in.

I'm digging this one up since I can't seem to find the right cap either. I need some sort of venting on my tank since it's pulling the plastic tank in due to the vacuum it's creating.

I've read up a little on that Stant cap, and it seems it's a pre-release cap...only releases positive pressure in the tank, not venting the tank so you don't have a vacuum/negative pressure in the tank.

Anyone know for sure what vented cap to use?

Why not check out their website:

http://www.stant.com//Automotive-OEM...el---Oil-Caps/

Permits fuel system to normalize during natural vacuum situations.

Seems like they provide what you're lookiing for, and Rock auto has them for $6.00

Its diesel were talkin about here, no worry for EVAP emissions...just drill a .060-ish hole in the darn thing and be done with it.

I wouldn't mind a bit of positive pressure...but mine is creating negative pressure and is collapsing the tank. Especially when I'm at 1/2 tank or less.

Where to drill the .060" hole? Up the center of the cap, on the inside?

Yeah, just thru the inner white portion and NOT all the way thru, don`t want any moisture finding its way in there. Before you do that though, might want to check the vent line to the tank and make sure its not plugged/restricted.

I bought the green diesel cap, and for a crazy price, from Advanced about a year ago. It has a 1/4 turn you have to back off after you tighten it or it will do the same thing to the tank. Knowing what I do now I would have drilled the hole. The special diesel cap is worthless. Just my $.02...

Thanks for the info guys...I'll check my vent tube of the tank first. If that is hooped then I'll drill out the cap.
