Fuel Additive
Fuel Additive
Not quite a true title, but;
My Missus is getting rid of about a gallon of Crisco pure vegetable oil. Basically because it stinks real bad in the fryer. Smells like we have a dead cat in there. Since this is unused clean oil, can I just pour it into the tank? Might attract some unwanted critters, but at least we'll get some use out of it.

I would think you have to somehow distill out the heavy fats and particulate.. That would do nasty stuff to your fuel lines and pump. Can't say I have the fortitude for that one..
I wouldnt put it in mine, but my boss uses every left over oil product he can,motor oil tranny fluid yes even cooking oil in his 95,has had no problems. I do know its hard to wash a bucket out with diesel thats had cooking oil in it, so it seems it doesent completly dissolve , or mix might be a better word, and in that case id stay away from it.
John, this is just my personal opinion and I have no "factual" evidence to offer but I would not use that in you tank.
I would be worried about it's chemical characteristics, purity, and so many other things that it's not worth the risk unless you go through a bunch of mods to accomodate that type of fuel type.
I have heard of guys running "bio-diesel" but I am not familiar with it's composition.
JMO guys...

Aw Shucks! I was hoping to at least get something back out of it, it took enough out of us. I don't think I want to try it now. Now who was it with that old VW?
Thanks y'all

I couple gallons won't kill your engine, but, unrefined cooking oil and fat is hard to pump, not very good lubricant for the injector pump, and causes varnishes to form everywhere, including injector nozzles and engine valves . . .
Now, if you add methanol and lye in the right proportions, you can make biodiesel -- that only dissolves natural rubbers.

Messing with that is much more expensive than wasted frying oil.

Thinks ... I can put the second tank right alongside the extra tranny cooler I installed. Then I can add another temperature gauge to monitor it.
My wife's gonna love this one. And all to burn a gallon of Crisco. Oh well.

As long as it is liquid oil, not the lard, just pour it in and drive away. I have been running used vegetable oil (straight) through a homebuilt kit with no problems. However I do have a second tank and all the heating needed to do so. NEVER RUN COLD STRAIGHT VEGATABLE OIL! Always heat it to at lease 120*F. As far as blending filtered VO and diesel, no problem they will completely blend and not seperate. I have over 1100 miles on the last fillup of diesel and the gauge is still over half full. That makes for over 100 miles per gallon of diesel. My mileage on VO is the same as on diesel ... 17-20 mpg....Kg
