front engine rattle

I just bought a 93 five speed with 140,000 on it. I noticed that there is a rattle coming from the front of the motor that I cant seem to put my finger on. I took the belt off and checked the tensioner, spun the ac it seemed good, alternator seemed ok as well. It sounds like a bearing going bad some where, You can hear it very noticeably over the sound of the motor. I am worried it may be in the motor, but I sprayed the motor down and it went away for a couple hours unless that was a coincidence. seems to be more from the front passenger side of the motor. tell me what you think. thanks

don't forget your to spin your water pump while you have the belt off and look at the weep hole on it to see if you are leaking. forgot to ask if you started it with out the belt good call just assumed you did.

I had a similar noise when my KDP was working its way out through the gear case timing cover. It changed sounds when ever I tilted the truck with the passenger side up on a grade. It was the pin grinding against the timing gear. The noise simply went away and an oil leak developed. I pulled the cover to replace the seal and found the KDP sticking half way through the cover causing the oil leak. It came through behind the balancer where I could not see it.

Not going to believe this, I pulled the belt and the noise went away so I put a new tension pulley on and checked the AC,water pump, and alt. put the belt back on and the noise came back. So I put a new belt on and that was it. I cant believe that it can make a sound like that, a loud tick more than a squeak. I guess you learn something every day. And just so I don't look to dumb I had two mechanics listen to it and they both didn't have a clue either. Thanks for the replies.
