front bearings

I am trying to re-pack my front bearing on my 1 ton dually 2wd. How do I get the outside nut/cover(not sure what its called) off to get to the inside nut. Do I need a special tool?

I have no idea what its called but I think it is a cover to keep dirt and debris from getting into the bearings. It's the very first thing you have to take off in order to get to the internals. All I did to this point is remove the tires, and I don't want to mess anything up.

Grab it gently with a big pair of channellocks and wiggle it off. It's just a dust cap.
