Fresh Air

I want to put on my intercooler chiller (now that It's fall and all ) but I really think I ought to set up a fresh air intake first. My hood is starting to blister from the turbo heat, so I thought I might jam a scoup on there (artfully, of course) but I want to find one that looks like it belongs on a 1st gen. Any ideas?

Didn't 70's Power Wagons have some sort of hood scoop? Otherwise I have always thought about cutting (nicely) the very front of the hood and plumbing air lines appropriatly. The pressure is the greatest at the grill so that would give you the most bang for your buck...

Just some thoughts..

If you want to protect your hood and improve you turbos response you should put a good turbo blanket on the exhaust housing.

Thanks Paul. I had a '77 Macho Power Wagon, no scoups. I was thinking about a Super Stock HEMI style, but that's a big scoup and might look stupid. I am going to play around with your idea on the computer and see what I come up with!

Can you recommend one? If I had the $$$ I would get the exhaust manifild and turbine housing ceramic coated, but I think Kaoin fiber is more reasonable right now.

There is an "R/T Hood" that looks pretty nice, has a raised cowl with small scoops on either side about midway back

Check here. http://www.usbody.com/ They have both the R/T and the 3" cowl induction hoods in fiberglass or you can get the whole flip front clip.

Old 70's ford diesel big trucks (like the 600) had a low profile scoop on the passenger side of the hood. Not big, bulky, or overly tall. Big truck bone yards practically give that stuff away.
