Found a motor...

I got word from my grandpa in Arizona that a friend of his knew of a 1st gen motor for sale. It spun a bearing (don't know whether rod or main) but the guy said it's supposedly going for only $150!! Ill bet i could roll a new set of bearings in that main or rod and she'd fire right up immediately after. I'm seeing a beast of a motor in my future!!

Maybe, but it could be a beast of an engine the other way, too. Hope it works out!!

I could go check it out for you before you go off driving 1000 miles. If you want me and the Aarons could make a day of it.

spun bearing = junk crankshaft most of the time from my experience, but for $150 it could be a great parts motor

Same here, of all the engines I've seen with spun bearings I've only had one that we could salvage without taking the crank out. Most of the time its not caught in time and the damage is done.

The one we had was a Moline G1350 with a 585 cubic inch diesel that got starved for oil on a cold day right after start up and because it was idling when the main spun it just locked her up. When we bought it and figured out what the problem was, we pealed the bearing off the crank and took emery cloth strips and removed the bearing material off the crank, rolled a new set of bearings in, check it with plastic gauge and haven't looked back.

Jimbo---

If you're looking for a donor vehicle we could discuss it by PM.

Gees, I wish I could find something like that. I want to get an extra head so I can send it off for reinforcement and "really awesome headwork"
