You don't have to guy a different starter to work with a 2nd gen flex-plate.

The only difference in the two is better materials and construction.

I don't know the Dodge or Cummins number for the 2nd gen plate.

I run one like this (second down the page) http://www.americanhotrodsolutions.c...te_adapter.htm

Hope this helps.

Ryan- get a new rear main seal from cummins while you are at it. Also, now is the time to replace any misc. seals that are leaking around drive shafts, transfercase, etc.

honestly this is first vehicle i have ever owned that does not leak a drop. should i do it even if it does not leak? i am going to do the input shaft/ tq seal forsure

there was damage to the back side of the block nothing deep but i should be able to just feather out the high spots right?

any one have the pages for the rear main seal my service manual doesn't cover diesels

Check the sticky's for part numbers! TC is kinda up for grabs. Call Goernds for suggestions. They are a great bunch of people and very helpful. When i upgraded to the 47rh i used an older style Dunrite that was used in large motohome applications. It was brand new never used and i did some horse trading for it. I just tow with mine approx. 6,000#'s Also look in classifieds for TQ some time guys are upgrading. Hope that helps. Also BC is right on the 2nd gen flex plate no starter change.........Augie

I'm getting ready to put in a 47RH - '94 model LU - and was told the flexplate you have will not work correctly ( after I bought one )...I was told it shoves the TC too far back in the bellhousing.
DO you still have your 46 or have you a 47?

I run the original A518 (non lock-up converter) that came with my truck. The flex-plate I run is for all intents and purposes identical to stock/OEM for my truck.
Yes, the SFI plate I now run is a bit thicker than OEM, and I've read at least one reference to somebody shimming to compensate for it, but in my install, it was a direct swap with no adjustments. To my knowledge, there are no problems.

Outside of the A518 I've laid hands on, I have no experience with any other Dodge truck transmission other than what I've read in these forums.
