That across the bed box is for a high lift jack. There is one in it.

If you look at the headache rack it has hand holds built into it. Those steps are nice to have. It makes getting on/off the bed a lot easyer.

You can't see it in the pic's. There is a turnover ball hitch installed with recessed chain hookups.

A custom bed isn't cheap. I tell everyone that asks to think of what they want the bed to do for them. This one does everything I want a bed to do. Plus you don't see a ugly frame and springs.

Sorry your thread kind of got hijacked.

I agree with the "bed to do what you want" and I really like the fact that the frame and springs are hidden. I might end up doing some sheet metal work on the bed I have to hide the "ugly" parts but I also want to be able to make the bed dump friendly for possible future addition's.

My deck is 82 1/2inches wide and I built rear fenders that stick out 6 inches on either side, kind of like the factory box. Doesn't look to bad. Deck was made for a single rear wheel truck. Picked it up for cheap.

I think what I may end up doing is putting the bed on, making sure its centered and "trimming" the sides if necessary. The only other thing I may have to do is modify the headache rack. Everything on the bed is removable from the headache rack to the rear corners which will accept 2x6's to make sides. Once I set it on I will snap some pics and post them so you all see what I'm working with.

Mainly because my father built the bed and he is no longer with us so it has a somewhat sentimental value to me.
