Flat Bed and SWR

Question for you guy's with flat bed's on SWR trucks. How wide is your bed, I have a bed that my dad build in the early to mid 80's that I plan on putting on my truck. It measures 9' long x 7'6" wide and what I did was mock up a couple of 2x4's just to see where it would sit and it looks to me like it stick's out to far past the body on the side so I figured I would ask those that have them how wide and how far past the body they sit.

Also if you dually guys want to chime and and let me know about your beds to that would be appreciated as I may just put a set of duals under the back.

Thanks in advance.

With a dually you need a bed 8' wide to cover the tires. My bed over hangs the cab about 12" on each side. It has some good wind drag.

I wanted a C&C axle to have a narrower bed. After looking for 7 years for a 3:08 C&C axle and not finding one. I just went with the wide axle bed.

Philip, can you show us some more views of that bed ??

That is one slick-looking bed.

As for width, 102" is as wide as allowed, 96" in some states.

My DRW beds are all exactly 96" wide.

I will have to measure the SRW beds and see what they are; I do know that they extend past the cab-corners maybe four-inches each side.

The son's truck is currently 4x4 SRW, with the possibility of some day being DRW.

I am designing a steel flat-bed for it that will have removable sides, sort of like leaves for a table, such that it can easily be converted from a SRW to a DRW bed.

For the SRW I usually make them about 3' wider than the cab on each side. If you make the bed a little wide then it fits any truck.

I don't like the head ache racks. All my flat beds are around the bottom of the window.

This last pic of the Ford with same Dodge bed (you Dodge lovers don't try this at home) LoL.

What he said ^

You want the bed wider to clear the tires as a load is applied. Make sure no bracing for the bed is directly over a tire. Also make sure that the axle stop is of sufficient height to prevent the bed coming in contact with the tires. Funny how that can make a good day bad .

I'd like to know how you can tell the diff. between a dually rear and C&C rear, This 92 is an original C&C truck but the rear looks wide.

I think a flatbed would look tough on your truck Ryan, I'd still like to see it in my driveway but it doesn't look like that will happen....

Not anymore. Were going to keep it and use it to have fun and make money. I have some body work to do put the flat bed on, throw some led lites all the way around, paint it and then it will be nice once again. I may even throw a plow on it.

Here you go Bear. Both sides look the same. When I bought the bed a few years ago. This was the only bed B&W had ever built for a 1st gen.

It doesn't dump. The lower front part of the bed would hit the cab. The bed would need to go back about 10" or so to setup as a dump.

I have an air compressure mounted in the right rear box. I haven't taken time to install the kelderman air ride I do have.

I have the front axle scattered all over the garage and drive way right now. I hope to do the air ride next.

Not yet but I'll let you know. I may end up putting the flat bed on before I take it for inspection. It depends on how much I will need to do to fit it.

Thanks, Philip.

The more I see, the more I like.

I really like the little "running-boards" step-like thingies along front of the tool-box doors.

I also like the storage in the head-rack.

There is a new company in the next county over from me that is also building some really nice flat-beds, very similar to yours.
