i have heard that when you convert the system over to LED, the stock flasher unit will not recognize them since they don't draw as much power as a bulb. but i dont know the part number or configuration of my flasher unit so i can get one from www.superbrightleds.com. they have numerous flasher units on their website, it just doesn't show what year make and model the flashers fit, you have to know the configuration of the prongs.

yeah that would be murphy's law for sure. well i haven't installed mine just yet, i had heard some people get the hyper flash or worse yet no flash at all and was just going to try and take care of the problem before it ever starts.

I am using a tridon electronic flasher unit. All my turn and brake lights are LED. I have been using it a couple of years with no problem.

Google shows it around $9.

I don't even have flashers. Just turn signals or if I move the relay on the fuse block I can have just flashers and no turn signals.

Most auto parts stores stock electronic flashers, my Dodge has one I bought almost 20 years ago, it's outlasted 3 vehicles.

electronic flashers are noisy, so you can tell when you leave the turn signal on.

This is the flasher that I am using, it is the gold box in the upper left of the picture, It is made by Dietz and is set to flash at 60 flashes per minuet or once a second regardless of how many lamps are connected. It is made for semi tractors to flash all of the trailer lights and school busses.

And it is purposely made to be LOUD so you can hear it. I have played with the timing circuit inside because I want a faster flash rate with my LED's but cannot get it fast enough because it has a mechanical relay inside.

Because the LED's turn off instantly unlike a filament that have to cool down it has the ability to strobe as they are flashed which is the look I am tying to have.

This one will flash at 360 Flashes per minuet. Hmmm

When you have LED lights you need a flasher that has an external ground since the LED’s will only draw milliampers.

Here is all of their flashers.

Anyone ever heard of TungSol? (If you are technically minded like I am you might find this intresting.)

add a BTW comment

Jim,
the problem I'm running into with my LED's is when the running lights are on the turn signals don't work.
I replaced my lights with 2 individual LED lamps - one for running lights and one for turn signals, and also replaced the side marker with an LED unit.

http://www.cumminsforum.com/forum/89...s-o-p-5-a.html

See post #23 - my truck is the 2nd pic.

They work fine with the lights off - but when the lights are on - no turn signals flashing, they light but don't flash.
I've been told the side marker lights are interfering - something to do with them grounding though the turn signals or something.....
The emergency flashers work correctly whether the lights are on or off and I get the alternating flash between the side markers and the turn signals.
I've found several electronic and electronic/mechanical ( using a relay ) flasher units but none are in a normally closed arraingement - that is they will not let the emergency flasher work because emergency circuit goes thru the turn signal flasher unit and the turn signal flasher unit is an open circuit....

Any suggestions ?

BTW - I've also got the 1157 LED replacement units that plug directly into the existing light sockets and they do the same thing.

Unix, I had the same problem. I ended up, begrudgingly, installing a ballast resister across my rear lights. That was the fastest fix. Sort of negates the purpose of LEDs, but the resistor only sees current during braking and signaling. So it doesn't put any added load on the light switch.

I was told I needed to put in a diode to prevent the feedback thru the side marker ground but I believe there is a simpler soultion......
I'm just not sure what it is.
