I got the chassis and CTD all washed up now, even found the serial number in the block (no timing cover tag). Now she is waiting to go into the heated shop to thaw/dry-out then the CTD teardown begins. Hoping I can use the engine stand my buddy was using recently, get it on there and start giving her some love right away lol. He is also going to look at my getrag/trans-case and let me know if they need some TLC or not. Why put in all this work to have something let got in a week after she is on the road..with my luck it would happen

Don't know that part of the province. I am hoping to get a week long bike ride on the east side of Sask.

I know this was a great idea, to build the 79 CTD but that got very much confirmed in the last few days!

One buddy has a '10 Super Duty, bought it used, well looked after. He is about to drop $5700 for a tranny and $3800 for a HP pump (cab off repair...?!?!) and they are not sure if that will fix his issue! I told him for that cash he buy a 1st gen CTD lol. Then another buddy yesterday told me that he is getting out of his 2010 cummins as warranty is up and he is scared of the cost if something does break.

What in the heck is the point of spending $70k+ on a new truck and you can't trust it after 3 yrs/160k KM. So hearing this from two friends, who are all about their compu-diesels, reaffirmed by decision to build a soild, no fancy bells and whistles 1st gen. Perfect timing to as the washed chassis/drive train is being placed in the shop to thaw tomorrow then hopefully by end of weekend I can drag the frame out as all the parts will be in a pile and the CTD on the stand

SHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Don't scare them boys away from the new stuff. After seeing RonA's Pee pump 6.7, we will have an almost endless supply of 6.7's to go into our trucks, IF we don't scare all the new truck buyers away..

The 79 is down to just the rear axle and frame. Got the CTD's rolling chassis in the heated shop...finally, she is all thawed out and ready for tear down. So now the project moves gets going again.

I got most of the wiring off the motor today and have the nuts for the transfer case loose. However the T case will not budge a bit. There was silcone all the way around it as well, scrapped what i cud off but still nothing. Is there a bit of a trick to get it loose and slide it back of the tranny?

Got it off...and then kept on tearing apart until we hit the flywheel This time I had an extra set of hands and a tractor to move the parts so it was pretty easy.

Is the transfer case in the CTD a weak spot?? I ask becasue there is a lot of silcone squeezed out of the case's other mating surfaces....thinking it has been rebuilt. Thoughts?

Did the first gen use the New Process T-case??? I know the 2nd gen had no problems...Except if it was rebuilt and some sort of c-clamp in the T-case,if it wasn't replaced could pile it up..

My t-case was the same for silcone on the back tail shaft...It leaked badly...Finally pulled it a part and installed gaskets...

Nothing leaking on the T case. So I think I will leave well enough alone. It's not that much trouble to pull it out if I have issues in the future.

The np205 transfer case used in the 1st gens is the strongest transfer case ever used behind a dodge CTD, IMO

Cummins is off the chassis and on the stand. Decided to do all seals/gaskets including the head gasket as I think it would be a dumb move to have a 20 year old, unknown mileage cummins on a stand and NOT re-seal/gasket it.

As I started to pull off timing cover to inspect the KDP it literally fell through the gearing (think Plinko in Price is Right), hot the floor when cover removed. See attached pics of condition is was in. Seems to me I am a very lucky man, my father is even more so, as there could have been a serious issue at any time. The damage to the KDP is more then these pics show to.
