Flashing your lights was a big thing in the 60s when you would come across another VW on the big road out west.
Today it is a 1st Gens trucks given the guy a wave or a thumps up to other 1st Gen.
Just like Harleys and Hot Rods and Boats on the water.
The time may come when we will all need each other in the USA.

I'm guilty too. I usually give the 1 finger wave or a thumbs up. Never heard of the Jersey fist pump before.
I always get approached at fuel stop and usually its an hour or so later when I get back on the road. A lot of times they've seen mine before at a pull or somthing, The conversatin usually starts somthing like this.(other guy) "You pull with that truck dont you", (Me) Yeppers. (other guy)" You pull it at Adams this year" (Me) Sure did. (other guy) "That thing runs pretty good". (ME) It runs alright I spose.
On my way to SOP #7 I had 3 guys talk to me about my old wreck within about 10 minutes( I was in a hurry then).
Its also great when you travel in groups of 1stgens, usually everyone who drives some sort of diesel pickup is breakin there neck to see em. That happened a lot on the trip to SOP #8.

I have been approached many times while driving Max. I always bring Max to Carlisle Pa. for the annual Mopar meet in July and meet tons of great people. I'm like a kid in a candy store when I go there!

The only other time i ever approached someone in the parking lot was, i saw a lady had to be in her 70's pull in a spot in a mint D250, i had to say something so i went over and said thats a nice truck ! she said i love my truck but my son wants me to get something smaller, i said do you feel comfortable driving it ? she says i shure do, its big enough if i hit something i have a better chance of not getting hurt, i said can i look at it ? she unlocked the door and this thing is allmost in prestine condition.
90,000 5 spd ( which made it even cooler she was driving a stick) red int, white/silver ext, 10000% original. i gave her my phone number and said ( if he wins and you sell it would you call me first)
she thought it was funny i went all the way around it taking pics with my phone.

I will wave when I see them going down the road. Surprisingly you see them quite often out in the country still chugging along doing farm work, hauling hay, etc.

You guys are all crazy!!! Cool Crazy 8)
haha I've had a bunch of encounters from a another first gen at a fuel pump talking about our pick ups and I had a guy with a 2011 Powerstruggle telling me how nice of a pick up I had and then I was walking to my pick up at a farm store when a lifted first gen came in and the guy walked up and we talked for about an hour and the store closed so he couldn't even go in to get what he was gonna buy. I felt bad but he said it was okay haha
