Fender Vents

How many of you have installed fender vents in order to help pull hot air out of the motor compartment? I know there is a detailed discription on "ramchargercentral" but I am interested in what other types of vents have been used and how you have installed them. This is a project that I want to do and I would like to look at some different ideas before getting started. Pictures of completed projects would also be great

Thanks in advance for any input.

I've got the same type as shown in the ramcharger article.
I installed them about 2" above the belt trim and centered between the wheel opening and the rear of the fender.
I had a temp sensor under the hood and noticed nearly a 100* drop after the vents were installed. Didn't measure the floorboard area but it 'feels' cooler by my feet.

A link to the RamCharger article would be great! Sounds like a great mod.

hey Unixcowboy when you installed the vents did you weld a mounting strip in as was shown on "ramchargercentral" or did you use some 3M adhesive tape to stick them in place?

With ambient temps around 110*, I could use all the cool air I can get.

Actually, when I got the vents, I was lucky enough to score a pair from 2 separate places and one actually had the mounting frame so I was able to drill 4 holes in the corners and bolt the that frame in using stainless hardware.
Before I bolted the frame in on the driver's side, I used it as a guide to cut the passenger side hole and I had the ears as a guide. I did trim the metal some to make sure the vents fit flat. By leaving ears I didn't have to weld anything - just careful trimming. I rough cut using an angle grinder with a cutting blade then trimmed and fit, trimmed and fit, etc using a metal file....
Extra work - yes. Worth it - Depends on you....I've had several comments from locals about the vents - all positive...
The paint is coming off the one in the pic. It was originally lite blue and I wanted black like the pass side. I found a place to bead blast it and powder coat it - debating on the powder but it sure would look good. The black stands out just enough against the gunmetal grey.

They really looked good 2 yrs ago - but 2 winters here in Mi have taken their toll.
