Amen to that... My buddy is planning on building, wait, planning on having me build him a p-pumped motor for his crew cab project so Ill have to learn those too I personally like the VE but I know he wants more reliable power and I cant change his mind. At least its still a mechanical pump!!

As far as a P-Pump swap not making it a first gen, who cares, as long as you like it, that's all that matter.

DNR, one thing I would suggest is driving a P-Pumped truck around the rwhp level you want, and see if you like the way it drives. If you like it, swap it, if not, find a 2nd gen toy.
X2..Unless an owner is stuck on doing nothing but a VE. One looking for high HP. Even the stock 160hp pumps will get you there. Like Jeff G if your doing twins. I really don't care what pump is on mine, if I'm looking for alot of HP. Its going to be a P7100. Its still a 1st Gen truck...Put a 3rd Gen engine in it. who care's? Its your truck brother...Just my .02. Personally. I'd still see it as a 1st gen, updated to your standards..

Can I get an AMEN. I'm right there with you. If you put differant wheels on it does that not make it a 1st gen or differant bumpers. Look at all those people that switched to bigger turbos. Those must not be 1st gen either. This whole not a fitst gen because it's Ppumped is pretty dumb. IMO it's just someone looking to go to the next level.

Yea I agree there is a lot of room for improvement on the 1st gen so like what 95ram said just some people like do there own type of improvement to what fits there needs and wants but I personally don't think it changes the fact wether its a 1st gen or not. So DNR have we at all helped your decision at all.

Thanks guys.. Have to talk to a few people, little concerned it has close to 400k on the pump, so I'm sure it needs to be gone through.. Gonna see if I can talk the guy down some, I really don't know how far I want to go with the truck as far as hp goes, something that is still streatable. Caue I love driving it.. But knowing me, I couldn't just put a pump on it, I'd have to pull the motor, stud and fire ring it, port the head and paint it all up reaL pretty and all that.. All I see is $$$.. Still need to build the trans too. it never ends!!

Right there with ya...Some are too tied up on the VE and it being in a 1st GEN. Its the body style, not the pump...

Hey our Canada diesel brother. Better off to buy a complete engine. Not cost worthy to part and piece it. Have seen plenty of crashed 12V P7100 trucks for sale. $2000 for the whole truck....Need info, shoot me an im...i'll give you a rundown of the parts vs. buying a parts truck....

The whole high pressure fuel system and the timing case/cover drive gear are needed, as well as the lift pump. Like Preston said, it's often cheaper to get a whole motor.

Will industrial engines work for this? Not the pump, but the lines, case and gear? I already sumped the tank and I am running an electric bypass setup.

Like wanna said you need the front case, cover, pump gear, injection lines, injectors, pump support bracket, and lift pump and filter housing and also throttle bracketry. But I would recommend getting Airdog system so you don't have to mess with factory filter housing and factory lift pump and also makes for much cleaner look. And personally if you know the cummins motor in and out it really isn't all that hard just swapping injection system. Long as you take your time and also it gives you a chance to replace stock cam for aftermarket one when you pull it for changing front case. Which I didn't only cause I ran out of money at the time of conversion but funds are back up so one may go in soon.
