fan clutch operation
fan clutch operation
I have a problem with my truck overheating when pulling, I noticed the other day that the fan seemed to be turning slower than I thought it should have. I had driven the truck maybe a mile on a 75 degree day and the engine was warm, i could feel the heat off of it. Later the fan was turning alot faster. I was just wondering if someone could give me some insight into this. I think I need to add another trans cooler can someone give me some tips on a type and where to put it , and also how complicated it is to install. Thanks
The fan clutch is thermally actuated. It should run slow when the engine is not hot. Feel the front of the fan clutch and then look at your fingers. If they are oily, the clutch should be replaced.
The trans is dumping a lot of heat into the coolant. The factory aux cooler was mounted under the bed and had a thermally controlled fan. Places like Summit and Jeg's sell trans coolers that are similar. Use a big one.
