Failed inspection again

Last year I had a heck of a time getting my truck to pass inspection, this year they failed me because you can't have a shutdown cable (pull cable?). What is the world coming to.

I just find it a special kind of stupid to not allow a dead bang reliable mechanical shut down versus an electrical one.

I suppose you could make some kind of argument about taking an extra step to kill it in an emergency, but still.........

That's what he said "What if the hood catches on fire". Seriously, how much effort is it to turn the key switch and to pull a shutoff cable. About the same. I called Monroe and the manager of the area is suppose to go over and talk to him. I have three vehicles I need to get done so I'm off to try another shop.

Messes up my week for a truck I just restored.

Yeah I was just thinking, didn't he JUST restore that last winter?

The pull cable is a lame reason for not passing it.

Try another shop where they might not be a thick headed.

An FSS is ten bucks at Hans. Why not just throw it in?

Crazy.... Do they do exhaust particulate testing as well, or just the safety stuff ?

In VT is is just safety stuff for diesels and of course the ZERO rust holes on the sheet metal.
N.Y. seems O.K with massive amounts of rusted out sheet metal.

Ask him what the hood catching on fire has to do with pulling a cable in the cab?

Then ask him what happens if the ignition switch sticks on?

Better yet, have them show you the regulation forbidding in codified in state law.

I would love to hear the answers to those questions myself.

Stock answer, "It isn't stock controls, therefore possibly unsafe."

Don't fight it. Throw on the $10 part. Pass the inspection. Then pull it off if you wish.

I guess I'm not the only one that had a bad day, my wife took her car to the same place (I didn't know) literally missed her by ten minutes. They failed her for a loose exhaust clamp. We had a good laugh last night.

Yeah, exhaust get particle test towards the city. My truck wouldn't do well with the exhaust test but I believe since it's historic, the law doesn't apply.
