exhuast leak

Have an exhaust leak and have had it to two shops and they cannot find it. The problem is that it only leaks when it is cold and when it is stoped and ideling. When it warms up it doesen't leak . Any ideas? Is there a so called donut in the connection ? I am in Amarillo tx. on my way to the Baja for a month . Thanks a lot for the info to get my truck ready for the trip ( 6000 mi ) I turned the pump up one turn and it made such a difference that I can't believe it. ( I pulling a fith wheel ) Thanks again guys.

Go to one of the parts houses that sell some tools also , look for a stethiscope with a rod & diaphram on the end of the hose , good for finding noisy parts , for exhaust leaks , take the rod & diafram off , put a 1 ft. piece of tube on the end of the hose , use that to find leak touching around all seams / connections .

Or you can just take a piece of some hose and with the engine running, with one end to your ear, take the other end and movie it around the exhaust manifold, turbocharger, and down-pipe. You should be able to hear it.

donut

Thanks a lot for the info and I will not be on line for a few days as I am traveling west but does anyone know if they still use a donut in the exhaust system close to the manifold?

No donut's here.

Unless I'm very mistaken, all the exhaust down-pipes use the band-clamp type deal.
