exhaust.. stans vs rooks
I can't compare the two because I have never seen Stan's. The Rook down pipe went in exactly as was described. It took some trial and error but on the third install I got it right. The down pipe is free of interference. ie it doesn't hit the frame. If you have an auto tranny you will need to carve some metal off the bracket holding the transmission cooler that is under the turbo. Also I could not use the original u bolt that clamps the down pipe to the bell housing. I used a heavy duty hose clamp to get the clearance.
Just put one on mine and it only took 1 hour 15 min from taking my old exhaust off to goin on the test drive with the new, very quality and the install is REDICULOUSLY easy, Stans got my vote and i think it is the only kit that is a true 4" from the turbo back.
How do you figure. Rip's is a true 4 inch from the turbo back too. Are you still running the stock outlet size for your turbo?
I've got Rip's on my 93 with an HTT 62/12 and it fits perfect.
Doesn't sound like you can go wrong with either kit.

The rooks exhaust is not a true 4" from the turbo cause of the 3" downpipe, I think it is worth the 20-30 extra bucks to get the 4" downpipe and the stan's exhaust will amaze you with the quality, i am extremely impressed with mine and i very highly reccommend them, good service and quality, www.stansheaders.com
beater, please get your facts straight. Rip has both a 3 inch and a 4 inch downpipes available for his 1st gen kits. So both vendors offer a 4 inch DP for their systems. If you are hooking up your Stan's to a stock turbo, your DP starts out 3 inch and goes out to 4 inch. Rip offers that same option, and also, allows you to weld on a 4 inch flange, for those who have upgraded their turbos. That's what I have on mine.
I don't think anyone can go wrong with either kit, as long as it fits their need and application. Rip's kit is top notch too.
Do you need a picture to prove to you Rip makes a full 4 inch DP for his systems? I can certainly go out a take a picture of one.

Calm down there (Fred Swanson) The kit thet i saw was with a 3" downpipe i was not aware of the 4" downpipe, I guess we learn something new everyday don't we, I was told that stans was the only one with the 4" downpipe from several people so i was not aware that rips had one too. I'll get a video of mine soon for you all to see and hear.
Not trying to stir anything up. If you look on the website, the 3rd item down shows the 4 inch DP. If both vendors use aluminized pipe, they should be virtually the same.
The muffler by default on RIP's is a Diamond Eye, but they can source any muffler you could want too.
From past experience, people that do good work on design on gas headers, usually don't know squat about diesels. But in reality, there's not much you need to know on a diesel exhaust, make it big and make it true all the way through. No crimps like the factory crap.
