Exaust Temps

I just pulled a big load home, and a lot of the way there was a BAD head wind, my exhaust temp. stayed at 1,000 for quite a while.. (taken before the turbo)

Once when i was pulling a loaded trailor with the pu. "also" loaded, I stoped and weighed the the whole thing. The combined weight was just under 23,000 pounds, and the exhaust temp. went to 1,150 in the mountains, i slowed down when it got there, as that's my personal limit.

Anyway, i was just wondering how high would "you" let your exhaust temp. stay for a length of time??? (an hour or so??)

I wouldn't hesitate to run 1150 for an hour or more.

Thats temp is fine pre-turbo, like stated earlier 1250-1280 is the pre-turbo limit Cummins set. After turbo (3 inches) add 125-150 degrees.

They say 1350 is the temp to stay away from. If I were at 1150 for a while, I'd mostly keep an eye on engine and tranny temps. Just in case the oil being heated from the turbo starts to get hot, and watch for the tranny getting hot and heating up your coolant if you run an auto.

OBTW, where are the mountains in West Michigan? A few hills maybe........

Click on the button, then click on "edit profile", scroll down about a third of the page to where it says "Signature", type in what you want, then scroll down to the bottom and click the button that says "Submit Modifications". All the smilies and vBulletin code work in there, so you can be as plain or fancy as you like.

Well, i also "didn't" know how to update my signature, but now i do, so thanks...

To answer your question, i've made a few trips back and forth to Alaska, and there's a few mountains over that way... :>) Actually, over the years, i've been over the ALCAN 13 times... with several different vehicles, includeing three times with this Dodge.
