Engine Bucking??

Hey,

I just got a '92 W250

See this thread to read about it:
https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...ad.php?t=88809

Well I finally got it on the road and have notced a few things...

1st: from 0 - 55 no problems with engine , etc... but when I get above that speed every once in a while it will buck and I have to let off the gas and then press gas down again and it will keep going... if i say in gas it just keeps slowing down.

I did change the fuel filter when I was changing all other fluids..but I am not sure how to check to see if there is air in the lines.. and if there was air in lines how do i get rid of it?? and would air cause a problem liek this??

or could it be something with fuel pump??

2nd: the heater/fan controls in the dash do not work..
has anyone actually pulled there dash apart??
and if so where these cable driven?? if cable driven can you get to them easy to fix or is gonna be a real pain in my ****??

3rd: Having trouble with tranny sticking in 5th gear.
1st threw 4th I can shift up or down with no problems at all and very very smooth.. but not every time does it stick just once in a while.. I will be driving along and then want to down shift and it sticks in 5th. so i have to push it back into 5th and then I double clutch it and usually i can get it into 4th..

Thanks for any advice in advance..

Don't know a whole lot about 1 and 3, but as for 2 the heater controls are changed by vacuum, so if they won't switch then they proabably aren't getting any vacuum or there is a leak somewhere. If the blower just isn't working it could be the switch or the blower motor, I would check the fuse first then go out to where the blower plugs in under the hood and check to make sure it is getting voltage to track down where the problem is. My blower motor quit working one time and it was just the plug was loose under the hood where it plugs into the motor.

Hope that helps some
Chris

On the surge: I would throw a lift pump at it and see if that cures it. The '92 and '93 models have plastic fuel lines that rarely give trouble.

If the truck has pushbuttons, they are vacuum operated like Chris said. The temp control is a cable. It could be as simple as the vacuum line is broken.

There's something worn in the top cover of the trans. It will have to come out to be fixed.

I had the surging problem as you stated once i got to above a certain speed. What my problem ended up being was the connection on the shutdown solenoid. When i got above 65 MPH it would shake enough to not make connection with the solenoid. Then when i let off it would be ok again. This may not be your problem but it's something worth looking at.

To test the LP, open the water drain on the fuel filter, and see what kinda pressure you got coming out of there. If nothing comes out and the engine dies when held open, your LP is shot. If you have good pressure coming out chances are you LP is fine. Fuel Pressure gauge is the best way to tell.

Good Luck!

Jeff
