Electrical snake

Last night I hooked into my trailer (it was already dark) and when i turned the headlights on, I had no low beams-parking lights were ok. I hit the highbeams, and they worked fine, then when i went back to low beams, they came on, and no problems last night or today. However after I left out, I noticed my trailer brake controller wasnt repsonding to when i hit the brake. If i manually slide my brakes on, the brake lights came on as normal, but with the pedal-no brake lights. Then it went to no brake lamos with the controller(see blown fuse below)

So I start looking at the Brake Lamp switch. pulled it down, and apart, and checked for power-no power. back tracked, and found the fuse was blown. I didnt have any fuses left and was at home by that time, so i called it a night.

My question...does the headlamp problem have any relation to the brake lamps? It had the 15a ATC fuse for the brake lamps, do i need heavier with a big trailer? Anything I should be looking for?

Thanks

I have had no problems with a trailer on mine that had full top and side lighting. Usually blown fuses are caused by poorly wired trailer. Mainly the pig tail get snagged or pinched or the insulation of the wired gets worn through touching the frame somewhere. I would just look the wiring over for abbrasions.

Sounds like the wiring for the trailer plug was done badly and something's shorting out. However, the 1st gens are known for having wimpy headlight switches.

Go through the wiring at the back of the truck and make sure nobody did anything stupid, also check out the trailer. If it all looks good, I suggest putting the trailer plug on relays to take the load off the truck switches.
