turbo housings
turbo housings
i need to know on what machinery can i find some housings that would fit on our trucks we have a heavy equipment junk yar around here and i took a look at some housings and they look like if they were maybe 14 cm or close some of them werent holset any input will be apreciated
Located something with a C-series 8.3L Cummins, get the hx40 off it, if it has a 16cm wastegated housing. Just about all of the industrial 5.9's I've seen all have the 12cm wastegated turbine housing.
Just eyeball the machinery to see what engine it has. Check the turbo where it bolts to the exhaust manifold, call it the 'foot'. You'll be looking for one the same size as your turbo 'foot'. Cat 3116, Cat 3126 will have nice upgrade turbos we can use.

If they have the same 'foot' as ours. You might carry a tape measure and measure the size of the foot. The two Cat's I mentioned are the basis of the B1 turbo line. Stock versions. But still nice upgrades. From what I've read and seen, the 3116 has a turbo physically sized between a hx40 and hx35. The 3126 will have the preferred B1 'S300' turbo. Stock version prior to vendor mods.
Edit, also these will require a 4"downpipe as well. If you did snag one off a medium duty truck, I'd take the downpipe flange, clamp and compressor elbow. Anything attached to it, even the oil supply fitting and or hose.

I don't know much about the old stuff. Although, thats what it is, old. Old technology, bearings, etc. I doubt they'd stand up to big boost up and down, hot, cold etc. As far as housings?? You got me, you'd just have to eyeball it. I'd look around though, you never know what you can use, modify, adapt to our trucks. I'd love to find a air to water aftercooled 5.9 Cummins. Get the cooler and lines.
