EGT's

I notice my EGT's seem like they are acting strange, they used to never get over 450* when I was driveing around but now it gets up to 600* when I have to get up to speed, I haven't changed my driving habits. I changed the fuel filter and cleaned the K&N filter and opened up my air box. After changing the fuel filter it also seems like the engine has a little more run out before it stops.. Could anyone give me an idea if I'm haveing problems or is my imaganation... THX....

Re:EGT's

Have you noticed any decrease in boost? It might be a boost leak somewhere.

Re:EGT's

If your probe is pre-turbo, it seems normal to me ???

If you noticed a little more umph, then you're getting a little more fuel. Did you notice an increase in smoke?

I am getting more smoke, and the boost is running a little higher. I have the probe post turbo. I haven't done anything to the pump eather. I was noticeing more smoke but couldn't tell if it was white or black.

Re:EGT's

It sounds like you are getting more fuel. Either you really needed to change the filter, or something magic is happening.

Ya, post turbo thats a little hot... Check your intake system as suggested then we will have to delve into more of the pump settings.

Re:EGT's

Manifold pressure went UP . . . Doesn't seem like a boost leak. And the truck still has the stock housing? I could hit 700 post turbo with my 21 no sweat on the highway.

Re:EGT's

Like you my probe is post turbo, (until this weekend when it goes pre turbo). Around town the temp runs at 400 sometimes up to 600 if I'm pulling one of these Seattle hills and then right back down. Highway, @ 65 to 70mph, it hangs in around 600* and pulls about 2 to 3# boost. Based on mine yours sounds normal to me.

Re:EGT's

I'd dump the post turbo probe and go pre-turbo and then buy the cool-down timer thats listed on here. Mine idles in park at 300* and today saw 23 lbs of boost ;D ;D was making 1200* on the pyro , but was also running 88 mph to get away from the fools on the interstate. Kinda ticked a few off when I nailed it, they should have had their window rolled up

Re:EGT's

I can hardly wait to see what my EGT's are when the probe is moved to PRE turbo. Piers is putting in POD's and I'm having them move the probe. The last time I tried to do something mechanical Henry Ford fired me.

Re:EGT's

POD's can do some pretty amazing things to your egt's, so while your having fun with your right foot, keep your eye on that gauge at the same time. While im running a first first gen, without an intercooler, its going to be hotter, so hopefully you will stay in the safe temps. I hit about 38# at 1400* on nice cool fall days, and it goes! (and im still suprised i havent gotten a ticket for environmental reasons!)

Re:EGT's

Bob, I'm coming up there Thursday morning. I made the appointment for 8:30. Guess I'm gonna have to get up well before the sun to make it. :- Are you close? Maybe we could meet for lunch.

Brian, I hear what you're sayin' 'bout the EGT's and that's just why I want that probe where it belongs. PRE turbo.
