Is there a gear in/on the regulator besides the big one that comes into view in the big door opening?

No, there is just the pinion on the end of the lift motor and the big 1/2 gear on the regulator arm.

There is a spring on the backside that hooks over a pin, mine was broken loose where it attached to the pivot, I took mine out and re-welded it.
