Draining Transmission oil

I tried to change my transmission oil yesterday and couldn't get the drain plug out. Thought no big deal I'll just drain it from one of the inspection cover bolts. Took one out and drained it then went to refill it and low and behold I cant get the fill plug out as well. I've never had one of these plugs get so tight I couldn't get It out. It also looks that the fill plug is stripped as well. To make a long story short I filled it through the shifter but couldn't check the level and then overfill by the one quart. So I just put in a gallon. Does this sound like a ball park figure or am I way off. Jethrro

Factory fill is 3.5 quarts. 1 gallon = 4 quarts. I bet you left some in it by not draining from the drain hole. Are both plugs stripped out or you just don't have a long handle 3/8" ratchet?

Overfilling isnt a great idea, it'll start pouring through the seals if its overfilled. You need get those plugs out.If they are stripped only way i know of is might try heat which aint my first choice or just drill em out. Dont stick an ez-out in there, more than likely it just break and you have a heck of a time getting it out. i started out with a 3/8 on mine and went up till i was almost into the threads, then took a tiny chiesl and just broke the threads out. Filings are only thing to worry about but magen takes care of those.

I used my 1/2'' ratchet with a cheater bar and a 1/2 to 3/8 reducer. Then tried to tap on the ratchet with a hammer to try to break it loose. The fill hole when I start to put pressure on it wants to "walk" out of the hole. The only other thing I can think of is to try a impact wrench and hope the multiple blows from air help knock it loose. Jethrro

Jethro, After you get the plug out. to save future problems use tephlon tape on the threads, that way you dont have to tighten them down so tight to keep them from leaking. and they will come out with ease.

5 quarts and no leaks on mine. You have to add at least a quart extra to keep the input bearing lubed because of the angle the trans is at.
