Door Locks
WD-40 needs to be used with caution
I had several homeowners who used wd on their window frames. The frames, several weeks later still had the wd on them, but also was covered with a layer of dust / dirt, because WD is sticky, and leaves a residue.
From what I've found, I would prefer using a lubricant that doesn't attract dirt.

WD 40 will get a rusty sticky lock working. PB blaster is probably better. Follow it with non residue electrical cleaner spray, then graphite.
I've got silicone lubricant, Kan-O-Kroil and electrical contact cleaner in aerosol cans and I also have a small puff tube of graphite. I've tried the silicone lubricant on the linkage joints in the past and it seemed to free it up a little bit.
I was having all these same problems with my door locks a little over a year ago. I did the same thing that NJTman did and it would fix it for a while but the problems always returned. i finally got tired of messing with it and purchased new door latches and posts here. I had a friend who owns a body shop install and adjust them for me, havent had a problem since. New lock and stricker post shouldnt run more then $120 per side to your front door.
Just tried spraying lubricant, contact cleaner and then a few puffs of graphite inside the lock cylinder.
My findings are, that the lock still has to pop in order for the door to be opened. If I open the door and actuate the lock with the key, it's smooth as glass. Is my issue now in the lock/latch mechanism itself?

These guys have new latches...
