Door Adjustment Quick and Cheap
Door Adjustment Quick and Cheap
My drivers door has worn some in the hinges, wasn't pressing my new weatherstripping enough to keep out noise, and was hitting my latch pin enough to make closing a noisy affair. I looked for something about adjustment, no sticky and the manual was useless. The upper hinge looked like it would need the dash and/or fender pulled out to get at the fasteners, but the bottom hinge has three 1/2" cap screws sitting there in plain view. I jacked the outer edge of the open door just enough to take the weight (with cardboard padding of course), loosened the three cap screws and put shim stock (aka metal tape) between the hinge and door. Now the door closes easily and presses the weatherstripping just enough to stop the wind noise. I posted some pix on Webshots for visual learners like myself. Lemme know if the link doesn't work. There's been lots of traffic on hinge bushing kits for this, but you can't beat the quick and cheap of this method.
